Comlurb worker cleaning his shovel over a typical carioca orange trash can.
When in Rio, you will soon notice the orange waste bins (trash cans if you prefer). In Rio we call them lixeira anyway.
These orange trash cans are one of those things you don’t see everywhere around the world. Neither the team cleaning the streets in their orange uniforms, constantly doing their best to keep Rio in its best shape… Although, they know that if it depends on the population, they will have loads of work all day and night.
This photo was taken in front of Jardim Botânico (Botanic Garden) right after a Carnival Bloco has passed (leaving behind lots of cans, food, plastics…) – and look around: it is all clean again, like the bloco hasn’t ever been there.
Photo taken on 24/Jan/2016.
