Two boys enjoying their childhood, playing football in a dirt street of Paquetá Island in front of a house with its main gate open and a parked tricycle.
Paquetá island holds a feeling of security rarely seen on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Unlike in many other areas of Rio, parents let their kids run and play freely without much of a concern.
Kids play football, ride their bikes, swim on the polluted waters of Guanabara Bay, all without adult supervision.
One of the main reasons for this may not only be related to security itself, but also to the fact that there are only a handful of cars circulating around the streets of the island, making traffic accidents a no-concern.
