Hundreds of people gather inside Mangueira’s Samba Palace (Palácio do Samba) on a Saturday night during selection for the 2017 Samba.
The main samba selection/competition runs for quite a few weeks and one song is eliminated every Saturday, until the best one is chosen to be played at the Sambadrome in the next year’s carnival parade.
Samba is not only music, it is life to many. And since early ages children get introduced to the rhythm and to all related cultural experiences.
It is a custom that is passed on from their parents, which, associated with the example of those who succeeded in becoming part of the Samba School, lead to the formation of new talents and perpetuate the tradition.
