Created in Rio, frescobol is a beach sport widely played in the carioca beaches. Part of the local beach culture, many play it enthusiastically.
It is a collaborative game, in which dropping the ball is bad for all players.
It looks hard and it is hard to hit the ball straight back to your partner, especially at high speeds.
It looks dangerous and it is dangerous – get hit by a ball and you will feel the pain. Plus, depending on how (and where) the ball bounces on you, there may be some bystanders ready to have a good laugh.
There is a law that prohibits people of playing frescobol near the waterline from 8am till 5pm but…
