Comlurb worker on his orange uniform looking forward checking on the carnival bloco ahead, right behind a trash collection/compactor truck. Imperial palm trees of Jardim Botânico on the background.
In case you are wondering: Comlurb stands for COMpanhia de Limpeza URBana (Urban cleaning company).
This is the same model of truck that is used for collection of residential trash on the streets of Rio. During the cleanup, while the truck is moving, the team hangs from its back until they spot the orange bins or piles of trash, then the truck stops and they run to collect it all and throw on the back for compacting.
Unless it is carnival and there is a messy bloco ahead, they will normally work during the night time or very early hours in the morning, in order to minimize disruption to traffic. But they may be loud enough to wake you up if you are not used to it.
