Three officers posing on their pushbikes, dressed on the official red, black and white uniform of the brand new security force: Centro Presente.
The new security force has been deployed on the streets ahead of the Olympics and now covers the ground with motorbikes, cars, buses, bicycles and on foot. The good news is that, unlike the armed forces, this is an initiative that should remain in place after the Olympic Games.
As the state and city government fail to meet the security needs of the population alone, the Centro Presente initiative, which is funded by the Commerce Federation of Rio together with the Prefecture of Rio and State Department for Welfare and Human Rights comes to cover the holes left by the sparse presence of the conventional police forces.
