3 men playing Altinho – a typical carioca collaborative beach game with a football – Morro Dois Irmãos on the background.
Alto means high in Portuguese – the purpose of the game is to keep the ball high at all times, never let it drop.
It is played with a football and the rules of touching the ball are the same as in football (soccer for North Americans) – It is not allowed to use the arms or hands.
There are some people (like these guys) that are so good at this game, that you can watch them for a while and never see the ball bouncing on the floor. Impressive skills built upon years of being a carioca at Ipanema beach.
